Here are a few theories behind possible reasons of why the tech giant named the new device as iPhone SE:
Sports Edition
The inclusion of the M9 co-processor in the new iPhone makes it seem like SE stands for Sports Edition.
The company has promoted fitness apps in the past, and the inclusion of a barometer to keep track of health only makes sense for it to be named as SE.
Smaller Edition
We know that the iPhone SE is just a smaller edition of the iPhone 6s, as it carries almost all the same features, but in a body of iPhone 5s.
This means that the new iPhone has the “same engineering” too.
Samsung’s Enemy
When the new iPhone was released, Samsung had already unveiled its 2016 flagship, the Samsung galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
The flagship was appreciated by those who had pre-ordered the device, and almost everyone pitched in to the company’s revenue generation. Korean smartphone maker played its cards smartly as it only added features that were needed, and improved on the features that were already present.
Apple had heard from its customers who loved the new speculations but didn’t approve of the large screen.
To cater to this demand, the tech giant unveiled iPhone SE to counter sales of Samsung’s flagship, which gives the impression that SE
stands for Samsung’s Enemy. However, such an intention seems less likely as it would further complicate the already rocky relationship between both rivals.
Something Exciting
The iPhone SE has excited all iPhone fans who wanted a 4-inch iPhone with latest specifications. Many iPhone users who still use iPhone 5s for its small size now have “something exciting” to look forward to.
The new device is available in four colors, Silver, Rose Gold, Gold, and Space Gray, with two storage variants of 16GB model and 64GB.
Special Edition
We will stick with the original theory where SE stands for “Special Edition.” It’s simple, makes more sense, and sounds like an iDevice name. The iPhone SE will be out in stores on March 31. Users can pre-order it through their carriers, or online through the Apple Store.
